Kevin Bronson Obituary

Our dad, Kevin Burnell Lloyd Bronson, was born to Lloyd and Lillian Isaac Bronson on November 28, 1963, in Edmonton, Alberta. On May 26, 2022, Dad was suddenly taken from us to be with the Lord.

Dad was the third of seven children, growing up on a chicken farm in Crooked Creek, Alberta. At age sixteen, he gave his heart to God and was baptized by Minister Lorne Thiessen into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Crooked Creek. A mid-life renewal with God set him on a course correction from which he never wavered. We would often see him reading his Bible, and Dad’s faithfulness left us with the assurance that he has gone to be with Jesus.

During his fifth and sixth grade years the family moved to Walnut Hill, FL, to be a part of the fledgling school where his father took a position as a teacher. Later, they moved back to Crooked Creek, where Dad finished his schooling and entered the workforce. His first job was at Balisky’s as a driver, delivering fertilizer to nearby farms. Business was brisk, with him sometimes logging in 40 hours by Wednesday noon.

After spending a six-month term of service at the Fort Garland, CO, unit, Dad followed in his fathers’ footsteps when at age twenty-one he accepted a teaching position at Grace Mennonite School, Winton, CA. Although he didn’t know it, this community would become the place he called home for the remainder of his life.

Dad found the love of his life in our mother, Yolanda Koehn. They were married on July 19, 1987, in Winton, officiated by Minister John Jantz. We children found happiness and security as we grew to maturity in our parent’s home. Dad and Mom were exceptionally hospitable, filling our home with guests. They were richly blessed by those who also made their home with us. Julie Loewen, Jon Luke Toews, and Jordan Dyck were not just boarders, they became part of our family.

Dad was a man of many talents and abilities. He spent time working for Valley Wide Mover’s, then a 10-year irrigation career began for dad in 1988 when he started work at Weimer’s Irrigation Company in Atwater. Three years later he purchased the business and moved it into a new building in Winton. Misfortune kept this business from flourishing; however, Dad was not easily discouraged. He was studious and began studying for a surveyor’s license. Hawkins Engineering employed him for several years, then he moved on to the RRM Design Group. In 2008, during the recession, Dad formed The Bronson Company as a licensed surveyor. When someone would ask him what his dream job was, he said “This is It.”

One of the most notable attributes of Dad was his unselfish service to others, his community, and the Winton congregation which he loved dearly. We remember him serving on various church boards, the local fire department, and making many personal touches in the lives of the less fortunate. A highlight of his life was working together with Good News Foundation on the Lastic Canyon Project in Haiti and helping in the recovery work of the devastating 2010 Haiti earthquake. The discovery of Isaiah 41:17-19 became very special to him in relation to the Lastic Canyon Project. We were privileged to join him on some of his many trips to this needy island. Our Dad enjoyed traveling the world, which included partnering with Engineering Ministries, Inc. and Engineers Without Borders. Almost without exception, his travels were made with the intent of helping others.

Special memories are seeing him enjoying his grandchildren, referring to them as “small person”, his involvement in catfish frying, backyard design, installation of the vintage caboose, love of reciting poetry, and his recent tour of Peru with Mom and his cousins Denver and Noreen Eidse.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Yolanda, Winton, CA; his four children: Kandis and Micah, Rosewood, MB, Jalen and Danielle, Ballico, CA, Morgan and Cheyenne, Enderby, BC, Kellie and Josiah, Winton, CA; and Julie and Jonathan Kurtz, Fingerlakes, NY; his grandchildren, Kenzie, Chloe, Kyler, Oscar, Sebastian, Celestine; his mother, Lillian Bronson, Roblin, MB; his siblings, Twila and Myron Wiebe, Bredenbury, SK, Laureen and Lowell Wohlgemuth, Hythe, AB, Roxine and Calvin Wiebe, Roblin, MB, Reginald and Edith Bronson, Ballico, CA, Wanda and Richard Giesbrecht, Cynthia and Jonathon Giesbrecht, Whitemouth, MB; his parents-in-law, Orville and Valeda Koehn, his brother-in-law, Marshall Koehn, all of Winton, CA,; his sister-in-laws, Valerie and Todd May, Theresa and Evan Unruh, all of Ballico, CA, Elizabeth Warkentin, Okolona, MS, Maxine and Lonnie Koehn, Winton, CA; forty-three nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Preceding him in death are his father Lloyd, and one brother-in-law Ernie Warkentin.
