Vannessa Gonzalez – Alexander 41, passed away in the comfort of her home, on Saturday, August 17, 2024, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Diagnosed on January 2, 2024, she fought bravely for several months, never losing hope or her ability to make others smile. Vanness was born in Merced, CA where she attended grammar school, made childhood memories and friendships that lasted through the years. After graduating from Merced High in 2001, she attended college in Fresno and at 21, Vannessa moved to Ewa Beach, Hawaii where she resided for 12 years. Moving back to California in 2017, following the birth of her son Carlos, she settled into her hometown of Merced, until her passing.
Vannessa leaves behind her husband, Robert Brannon Alexander and her young son, Carlos Alexander of Merced. Her parents Norma and Noel Portillo of Merced; brother & sister-in-law Christian & Jaizie Gonzalez, nephew Xavier and Niece Selene. And her sister & brother-in-law April & Afrikaa Holloway, niece and God daughter Aria and nephew Amari.

As a loving mother, devoted wife, cherished daughter, beloved sister, treasured Tia, and amazing friend, Vannessa's presence was a gift that we will forever hold in our hearts.
Vannessa was the heart and soul of her family. As a mother, she poured her love and energy into raising Carlos, guiding him with support and wisdom. Her pride in his achievements and concern for his well-being were constants in her life. She had a special way of making each moment important, turning everyday routines into cherished memories. Carlos knew, without a doubt, that he was loved beyond measure.
To her husband Brannon, Vannessa was the light in his world. Their bond was built on a foundation of deep respect, shared dreams, and a love that grew stronger with each passing year. In her eyes, he was her rock and her joy, and their life together was a testament to the beauty of true companionship.
As a daughter, Vannessa brought immense joy to her parents Noel and Norma. She was a source of pride and an embodiment of their hopes and dreams. Her thoughtful gestures, kind words, and caring nature were reflections of the values they instilled in her. The love she had for her family was a mirror of the love she received.
As a sister, Vannessa was a source of strength. Her siblings knew her as someone they could always count on, whether for a listening ear, a word of encouragement, or a shared laugh. The bond she shared with her brother and sisters was a testament to her loving and supportive nature. She was a constant presence in their lives, and her memory will remain a cherished part of their hearts
To her nieces and nephews, Vannessa was a beloved Tia - someone who brought laughter, wisdom, and warmth into their lives. Her playful spirit and nurturing heart made her a guiding light for them, and her impact on their lives will be felt for years to come.
And to her many friends, Vannessa was funny, loyal, and compassionate. Her friendships were built on trust, laughter, and shared experiences. She had a unique ability to make people feel seen and heard, and her presence brought comfort and joy to those around her.
Vannessa's life was a mosaic of love, kindness, and generosity. Her laughter and smile were infectious, her hugs were comforting, and her spirit was uplifting. She had an innate ability to make every person she encountered feel special and valued.
Though we are deeply saddened by her passing, we find warmth in the memories we shared with her. Each of us carries a piece of Vannessa with us - her love, her kindness, and her unwavering spirit. Let us honor her memory by living our lives with the same grace and generosity she so effortlessly embodied.

Viewing and Visitation will be at Wilson Family Funeral Chapel of Merced on Thursday, September 5th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.
Celebration of her life will follow on Saturday, September 7th at 11:00am at Gateway Community Church 353 E. Donna Dr., in Merced.
