Thelma Pearl Koehn was born to Herman and Mary Johnson on November 6, 1930, in River Styx, Ohio. Mom passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024, surrounded by her family. Mom was 93 years old.
Mom's family moved to Summerdale, Alabama when she was six years old. Mom attended school in Alabama through the 8th grade. The family moved to DeRidder, Louisiana when mom was fourteen years old. When mom turned 16, she worked at the Royal Cafe in DeRidder. She started as a waitress, then cashier and then became personnel manager.
When mom's sister Theda married and moved to Winton, California, mom would visit Harvey and Theda often. Mom found a job in Winton at the onion dehydrator and decided to stay in California where she met Dewey Koehn. Mom and dad were married on November 9, 1952 and resided in Winton until moving to Livingston. Mom was not only a wonderful homemaker, she also worked as a laundry supervisor at a nursing facility in Turlock for many years.
Mom loved to bake for her family. She baked the best pies and cookies. Mom also did a lot of canning and freezing peaches, apricots, corn and endless jars of jam. When any of us would drop in, she always insisted on making something for us, a meal or even just cookies. We never left her home hungry.
Mom accepted God's call in her youth and remained faithful to the end. Mom is survived by her son, Dexter and Kathy, daughter, Janice and Jerry Jantz, son Tim and Kimberly and son-in-law Doug Jantz, her grandchildren, Brad and Melissa, Holly and Corey Gerson, Cheryl and Shawn Giesbrecht, Marcy and Nik Koehn, Krista and Danny Koehn, Kyle and Stacey, Nolan, Rianne Koehn, as well as 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Richard Johnson, and sister Roberta Nikkel. Mom is preceded in death by her husband, Dewey, daughters Marcella and Rochelle and grandson Ryan, and 3 greatgrandchildren, Cole, Mandy and Lexi. She is also preceded in death by her mother Mary and father Herman, 5 brothers and 5 sisters.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Church of God in Christ Mennonite church in Winton, California and to follow at Winton Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Wilson Family Funeral Chapel, Winton, California.
