A Life Remembered
Sharon Rena Cooksey was born on October 22, 1954, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Emmer Lee West and Melvin Edwards. As a young girl, Sharon moved with her mother to Merced, California.
Family and Love
Sharon met the love of her life, Charles Cooksey. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising six children: Charles Cooksey Jr., Cassandra Cooksey, Rachelle Hunter, Stacy Cooksey, James Cooksey, and Timothy Cooksey. Sharon was blessed with 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, lots of nieces and nephews, each one holding a special place in her heart.
Her Joyful Spirit
Family and friends were the center of her world, and she always found her way back to Merced—which she lovingly called her “stomping grounds”—no matter where life took her. She left us with some memories that truly hit the spot, like how she turned to Naughty Nae Nae, after just one drink (or not!) She’d play her game of dominoes and swear she’d always win (and if she didn’t, trust and believe, she’d say, “Let’s run it back again!”) If you told her she was acting crazy-she would say “If I could act, I’d be in Hollywood getting paid.”
A Legacy of Kindness
Sharon leaves behind a legacy of kindness, joy, and unwavering love. She touched every life she encountered and will be forever missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
May her beautiful spirit rest in peace.
