Ruben Gonzalez, age 78, of Merced, California, passed away peacefully in his residence on March 3, 2025. He was born on November 27, 1946, in Portland, Oregon, and lived in Merced for over 65 years.
Ruben worked as a dedicated meat cutter for more than 37 years. His passion for music spanned over four decades, and he brought joy to many through his talent and love for performing. As a proud member of Los Amigos Band, he was known as a band brother who shared his music throughout Merced County, touching the hearts of many with his presence.
Ruben now joins his beloved wife in heaven, Martha Gallegos Gonzalez, with whom he shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. He is survived by his children, Melissa (Pete Jr.) Herrera and Daniel Gonzalez; his grandchildren, Savannah, Daniel, Phillip (Mireya), Keyonnie Herrera, Destiny, and Gizzell Gonzalez; and his great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Noah Rubalcava, Dominick, Carmelo, Cameron, Chloe Duran, Sarah, Elijah, Ezra King, and Stella Reign Rubalcava. He is also survived by his siblings, Leticia Torres, Jeorge Espinoza, Ralph Valencia and Patricia (Raul)Ramirez.
A special thanks to son-in law Pete Herrera Jr., Patricia (Raul) Ramirez, Richard Gallegos, Marion Gallegos and all family members, whose unwavering support was vital during the last couple of weeks of Ruben’s life. Their care and dedication provided immense comfort during his final days.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jesse Gonzalez, his sister-in-law Betty Torres, brother-in-law Reuben Torres, sister-in-law Kathy Gallegos, and his great-granddaughter Gracie Star Rubalcava.
Ruben’s kindness, dedication, and love for his family and music will always be remembered. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held in memory of Ruben Gonzalez at 11a.m. on March 14, 2025, at Lifeline Church, 1031 East Bellevue Rd, Atwater, California. Services will be officiated by Pastor Pete V. Herrera Jr and Pastor Joey Salas. Repast to follow at Club Mercedes, 569 W. 9th Street, Merced, California.
