Reber Gould Tolbert Obituary

We celebrate the of life Reber Mae Gould-Tolbert. She was born in Glosser, Mississippi on January 16, 1933. Reber was the eldest child of James and Lessor Andrews and had two other siblings, a brother John Henry Andrews, and sister, Polly Spires.

Reber moved to San Francisco at the age of 9 where she attended Raphael Weill Elementary School and Girls High School in San Francisco. After high school, she married Waymon Randall. To their union, daughters Valerie and Vicki were born.

Reber began her career at UC Medical Center in San Francisco as a radiology technician. Among her accomplishments during her 37-year career, Reber advanced to become Unit Coordinator Supervisor and she started their very first newsletter. She married Alex C. Griffin and gave birth to son Otto and daughter Danita.

Reber was an active member of various women’s social clubs. She was an avid bowler and member of San Francisco Matchmaker. She loved to travel and spend time with friends. Also, she enjoyed shopping, cooking, sewing clothes and upholstery. During her sport of bowling, she met and married Tommy Gould who preceded her in death.

She met LeRoy Tolbert and later uprooted from San Francisco to Chowchilla, California. They were married in 2007. Reber and LeRoy were faithful members of Mt. Olive Baptist Missionary Baptist Church of Atwater, California.

On March 15, 2024, Reber went home to be with the Lord. She leaves to mourn, her children and stepchildren, Valerie Carney (Floyd) of Prentiss, Mississippi; Vicki Randall (Wayne – deceased) of San Francisco; Otto Griffin (Nedra) of Hayward; Danita Griffin (Jeffrey) of Las Vegas; Sharon Renee Gould; Michael Tolbert (Lovely) of Chicago; Steven Tolbert (Jennifer) of Los Angeles; Lori Hurley of Chicago; and her sister, Polly Spires.

Also, she leaves her grandchildren, Gregory Driskell of San Francisco; Tracey Carney of Houston; Kareema Clemens (Jacardo) of Texas; Wayne Gatlin, Jr. of San Francisco; Alexander Griffin (Rishala) of Las Vegas, Nevada; Niece, Michelle Spires and her daughter Alexis Elipoulos and grandson, Paris, and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Preceding Reber in glory are: Her parents, James and Lessor; brother, John Henry; Tommy Gould; LeRoy Tolbert; and grandchildren Tamaris Griffin and “Lil” Otto Griffin.
