It is with the heaviest heart that we announce that Phil passed away unexpectedly, in his sleep from a suspected heart attack while camping near Pinecrest, CA on Sunday, July 13th, 2025.
Phil was born on August 29th, 1956, to Harold and Evelyn Peterson in Turlock, CA. He had a huge heart & a deep love for his family, friends, agriculture and outdoors. Phil spent his life farming and working in the ag community, where he was well respected by everyone he met. He worked for Ag Production Co. for 42 years, retiring in 2022. After retirement, he put together a new hay retriever truck and hit the road, while also continuing to grow hay and corn. He and Rip would head out every morning, driving all day and loving every minute of their time on the road. Phil enjoyed hunting, fishing, a good road trip, riding horses and playing cowboy.
Phil is survived by his wife Molly and children: Chris (Megan), James (Tess), Alyson, Blake (Megan), Wyatt & Laurel. He is also survived by grandchildren Hanna (Tyler), Vincent, Troy, James, Alexa, Ava, Lula, Josie, Lennex, Emmersyn, Hesston & soon to be baby Cohen. Also surviving Phil are his brother Allen (Stella) & sister Laura (David), sisters-in-law Marie, Nannette (Carl), Noel (John), brother-in-law Frank (Bonnie) and mother-in-law Sharreen, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins & friends. And let’s not forget his trusty sidekick and co-pilot, Rip. He was proceeded in death by his parents Harold & Evelyn, brother Bob & father-in-law, Leon.
We invite you and your family, to join us as we celebrate Phil’s last round-up on Saturday, July 26th at 4:00pm at Elks RV Park, 3600 Wardrobe Ave., Merced, CA 95341.
