Phil was born and raised in Colmar, PA and was the son of the late Hayes and Violete (Fenstermaker) Herschler. He was a 1959 graduate of North Penn High School. He was a member of the 4-H, raising pigs and chickens for which he won many ribbons. He was an Eagle Scout with the Colmar Boy Scout troop. He graduated from Spring Garden Institute and then enlisted in the Air Force. His 28-year career involved training pilots all over the globe how to fly B-52s using the Air Force B-52 Simulator. After retirement he served with the US Postal Service delivering on the rural routes in the San Joaquin Valley of California where he lived out his life in Atwater, CA. Phil volunteered at a local hospital and at his church. He also enjoyed a hobby of collecting, refurbishing and selling diecast trucks. He and his wife Rebecca (Fleming) were married for 60 years and he is also survived by 2 children, Phil Jr and Brian, and 3 grandchildren, Holly, Bethany Vargas (Eddie) and Darena, and one great-grandchild Miley. He is also survived by two sisters, Karen McCann of Souderton, PA and Mary Ann Anders (Jim) of Quakertown, PA and many nieces and nephews. A funeral with military honors was held on May 13th at the St. Anthony and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Atwater. Phil was preceded in death by his brother Dorrance Marc and will be buried next to his son Darren who passed in 1994.
