It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden, unexpected passing of Nestor. He quietly departed this life on Monday, August 4, 2025. Nestor L. Tangalin (68), of Merced CA, was born on June 28, 1957 in Bauang, La Union, Philippines to Marcos Tangalin and Jovita Lomboy. As a young man, he proudly served in the Philippine Navy. At the age of 34, he immigrated to the United States in 1991, settling in Merced, CA with his family.
Nestor will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, work ethic, his helpful nature, and the special bonds he shared with those close to him. He filled his life with adventure and memories with family throughout the years – whether it be road trips, spending time with those he loved, being outdoors and fishing, fixing cars, and going to the casino.
He was a dedicated father and remained a committed, constant, loving presence in Emma and Joycelyn’s lives; always striving to support them with care, love, and devotion. Nestor is now at peace and has joined Emma, mother of Joycelyn, in eternal rest.
He is survived by his daughter, Joycelyn Tangalin, sister Maxima Cadiente, brother Danilo Tangalin, and wife Marilou Tangalin. He is preceded in death by his father Marcos, mother Jovita, and sisters Cresing Genovaña, Merin Rillera, and Gloria De la Cruz.
He was a loving father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many, and will be fondly remembered by his warm presence. Nestor will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A viewing will be held at the Wilson Family Funeral Chapel in Merced (525 W 20th St, Merced, CA 95340) on Friday, August 29th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and a funeral service to immediately follow.
Please join us after the service at Yosemite Lake for a gathering in loving memory of Nestor.
This will be a potluck—a heartfelt time to come together, share a meal, and reflect on the stories and moments that made Nestor so special to all of us. If you’re able, we kindly ask that you bring a dish or item to share as we celebrate his life, his love, and the memories we hold dear. Please look for the blue and green balloons at Yosemite Lake, which will mark where the family will be gathering.
