Milferd Dean Schmidt

Milferd Dean Schmidt was born to Ferdie and Irene Sebrant Schmidt on May 6, 1941 in Cement, Oklahoma. On September 21, 2019, at the age of seventy-eight, after a long fight with multiple health problems, he peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Milferd's childhood years were spent attending Pioneer School in Chickasha, Oklahoma, and helping on the family farm. When Milferd was twelve, he gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite at Chickasha, Oklahoma in January 1954, by Abe D. Koehn. Although life was not always easy he stayed faithful to the Lord till the end.

Milferd married me, Rosetta Joy Koehn, on March 10, 1963, at Fairview, Oklahoma. We shared our love for fifty-six years. To our marriage was born four sons and three daughters. Three months after our marriage we moved to Livingston, California where Milferd and I put in our 1-W service at Grace Home. We decided to make Livingston our permanent home.

Dad worked at several carpentry jobs and later started his own business where he enjoyed building custom houses. Other things dad really enjoyed were Sunday school, singing, being on the church food committee, and the eleven years he was the Grace Home church service coordinator. Some of his hobbies were gardening and hiking. Backpacking was his favorite and he enjoyed several trips with family and friends. Dad also had a real concern for the spiritual welfare of his family, often requesting prayers.

Left to cherish memories are his wife Rosetta, his children; Wes and Sheila Schmidt, Scio, Oregon; Vanessa Escalante, Yuba City, California; Bonnie and Wayne Koehn, Livingston, California; Lonnie Schmidt, Massillon, Ohio; Tim and Isabel Schmidt, Atwater, California; Ralph and Delori Schmidt, Atwater, California; Lillian and Evan Koehn, Bonners Ferry, Idaho; eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four sisters, five brothers, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers-in-law.
