Michael "Mike" LaCava Obituary

Michael “Mike” LaCava, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on October 15 at the age of 64. Born on September 10, 1960, in Merced, California, Mike was known for his adventurous spirit, loyalty, and love for the outdoors.

Mike is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cindy LaCava, his daughter Mallory LaCava Gatchalian (Dennis), and his son Justin LaCava. He is also survived by his sisters, Lori Lippincott (Kirk) and Karrie Madison (Todd), as well as his cherished Parsons Terrier, Lilly, who will deeply miss him. Mike's memory will live on through his family, including his grandchildren and all those whose lives he touched.

Mike was preceded in death by his father and mother, James and Lois LaCava, and his father-in-law, James Ball. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Linda Ball.

Mike attended Merced High School and graduated from Atwater High School, where he met his high school sweetheart, Cindy Ball. They shared a beautiful life together, filled with love and adventures. Mike excelled as a gifted athlete, playing both football and baseball during his school years.

His love for the outdoors shaped much of his life. Whether it was abalone diving, mountain biking, camping, golfing, or fishing, Mike found joy in nature. Many of these adventures were shared with his dear friend, Joel Allen. Mike's dream of living in the mountains was realized when he and Cindy purchased a beautiful home in Twain Harte. This home, surrounded by the beauty he loved, will continue to be a place of memories for his children, family, and grandchildren.

Mike was also a passionate foodie, and his Italian Christmas feasts are a beloved tradition that his family will treasure forever. He was the person you could always count on—loyal, adventurous, and dedicated to his loved ones.

For the last ten years of his career, Mike worked for the City of Turlock before enjoying his well-deserved retirement. He was an amazing father who was always present for Mallory and Justin, supporting them through every stage of their lives.

Mike will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be held on November 9th at 11:00 AM at the Atwater Women’s Club, 1201 Grove Ave, Atwater, CA. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring his memory and sharing stories of the wonderful life he lived.
