Marcella Maria Grijalba

Marcella Maria Vasquez Grijalva, 94, has gone home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Thanksgiving Day, November 28th, 2024. She was born in Los Angeles, CA, on March 14, 1930, to Yrineo and Maria Guadalupe Tavera de Vasquez. Her father worked at Gladding McBean, manufacturer of Franciscan Ware. Her mother was from a ranching family in Guadalajara, Mexico. They became US residents in 1927. 

Marcella attended Holy Family Catholic Girls High School in Glendale, CA. She married Sgt Apolonio Grijalva, USAF, (the boy next door) at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, Los Angeles in November 1950. She wore a dark blue suit instead because the family was in mourning following her father's death earlier that year. Their military travels included El Paso, TX, Roswell, NM, Big Spring, TX, Bermuda, Belton, MO, Atwater, CA, Mexico City, and Hawaii.

Marcella was a warm and much beloved matriarch to a very large and growing family, Apolonio Jr., David Joseph, Robert, Teresa, Ramona, and Anita, including spouses, grandkids, great grandkids, and 3 great -great grandkids and numerous cousins, relatives, and friends.

A Rosary will be held at St. Anthony’s on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 9:30 am with Mass to follow at 10:00 am. Burial will be at the Winton Cemetery at 11:30 am, Dec. 17 (Tues.).

In lieu of flowers, the family would like any memorials to be directed to St. Anthony Catholic School/Tuition Assistance.
