Lettie Lucille Holdeman was born June 4, 1944, at Moundridge, Kansas, to Oliver and
Lorena Holdeman. She peacefully passed away at Grace Home, Livingston, Califomla,
in the earty hours of September 22, 2024, after a brief illness.
Her earty childhood was spent in McPherson County, Kansas, later moving with her
family to rural Stapleton, Georgia. She began her education in country schools at Maple
Grove School near Hesston and then at Sunny Hill near Canton. When she moved with
her family to Georgja in 1956, she contnued to the eighth grade in Louisville Acadeny.
After getting her GED, she went on to nursing school at Swainsboro Tech, Swainsboro,
Georgia, receving her practical nursing license.
Her nursing career took her to Moundridge, Kansas, where she worked at Mercy Hospital
for a couple of years, then back to Georgia and finally to California in 1975 where she
worked for a time at Grace Home and then at Mercy Hospital, Merced, completing over
forty years of nursing.
Lettie accepted the Lord as her personal Saviour and was baptized into the Church of
God in Christ, Mennonite, on December 4, 1955, by Min. Harry Wenger. Her Christian lfe
was meaningful to her. She served the Lord with grace and faithfulness, blessing many
lives with her ready, cheerful smile.
Lettie made her home with her faithful friend, Sandra Koehn, who became part of her
family as well as she became part of Sandra's family. Together they often enjoyed trips to
the coast and to Yosemite. They also spent hours together singing with friends. Lettie's
beautiful alto voice is remembered by many. She enjoyed watching the hummingbirds,
and irises were her favorite spring flower. She could often be found with a cross-stitching
project to keep her hands busy. For years she looked forward to going to her sister
lleen's, for family nights. Their family became very special to her.
Surviving her are her faithful friend, Sandra; brothers: Wayne and wife Carolyn of Emelle,
Alabama; Marion and wife Patricia of Stapleton, Georgia; sisters: Ruby and Verte
Schneider of Stapleton, Georgia; lleen and Dale Koehn of Atwater, California; and Twia
Koehn of Weatherford, Oklahoma; sisters-in-law: Marcille Holdeman, Brooksville,
Mississippi; Letha Holdeman, Bartow, Georgla; and Brenda Holdeman, Louisville,
Georgia; and a foster brother, Tony Richbourg of Statesboro, Georgia. Sandra's family
Judy and Mark Mininger Greeley, Colorado; Marcia Boehs, Atwater, California; and Doug
and Sharolyn Koehn, Lime Springs, lowa; together with many well-loved nieces,
nephews and friends.
She is predeceased by her parents, four brothers, one sister, one brother-in-aw and one
sister-in-law.
