Leonard James Peaster was born to Joseph and Susie (Becker) on May 27, 1927, at their home in Copeland, Kansas. He peacefully departed this life on September 20, 2019, at Grace Home, Livingston, California, reaching the age of 92 years. At the age of 14, he moved with his family to Winton, California, where he resided until his death.
He became a Christian believer and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on February 27,1963, by Minister John Jantz. He embraced the faith and expressed his clear testimony until the Lord called him HOME.
He married me, Darlene Becker, on November 18, 1953. Our home was blessed with one son and two daughters. We shared life's joys and sorrows for almost 66 years. Dad worked making fruit boxes for Del Monte Cannery for a number of years and then for a local Ag-fertilizer business. For many years, he enjoyed farming an almond orchard and did some custom harvesting.
Leonard had a very open and winsome personality. He made friends everywhere he went. He loved to meet people and visit, and that included being punctual with appointments. He loved life and readily shared his wit and humor. He was serious too. He often expressed his concern that we all need to be ready to meet God, and prayed for his family and for prodigals in our community. One traumatic experience of his life was the tragic and sudden disappearance of our lovely granddaughter, Vanessa Dawn Smith. We will always remember his expressions of love for us as a family, for the grandchildren, for nieces and nephews, and for the Ballico congregation.
He will be greatly missed by: me, his wife Darlene; daughter Beverly Smith of Delhi California; son Robert and wife Emily of Buhl, Idaho; daughter Brenda and husband Darrell Becker of Yuma, Arizona; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; one sister Dorothy Bolcao of Merced, California; one brother Raymond and wife Arlene of Livingston, California; one sister-in-law Velda Peaster of Atwater, California; one brother-in-law Tony Becker of Denver, Colorado; two sister-in-laws: Winona Blosser of Wichita, Kansas, and Isabella and husband Ralph Costilla of Wichita, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, seven brothers, one sister, one son-in-law, and two great-grandchildren.
