Karen passed away at her home on Saturday, June 22nd. She was born in Roseburg, Oregon, to Harry and Gladys Jones and was a long-time resident of Merced, having lived in Merced over 45 years. Born in Oregon, Karen and her family would move to California & back, graduating from Oregon City High School in 1970. She continued her education, graduating from Galen Medical College in 1973. In the following years, would meet Willard Weger, marrying in 1978, settling down in Merced, they would go on to have two children and would share the next 46 years together. She was employed at Foster Farms for 18 years before she retired and spent some time traveling the US. In recent years she was employed at the Merced County Courthouse Museum. She took great joy in the 13 years spent there, spending time with her friends, learning the history of Merced and meeting lots of interesting people.
Karen was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and a friend! Her favorite color was pink, representing friendship, affection, charm and approachability. She was all of that and throw in spunk - to spice it all up. She watched her favorite Soap Opera for as long as I can remember “As the World Turns” until its final episode in 2010. It speaks to her desire to watch a portrayal of real-life events, that involved tangled interpersonal situations and how they weathered through them. Her love of NASCAR took over, not only prompting lots of trips to watch in person, but the need to have her own memorabilia. She truly became a hardcore fan, when she purchased a Chevrolet Camaro black with all the decals including the #3, over 20 years ago. It might have been her most favorite possession!
Some of her favorite moments were those spent with her children and grandchildren going out to eat at her favorite spots in town. She also had fun visiting casinos around the valley with her gal pals and was an avid bowler for many years.
Karen is survived by her husband of 46 years Willard Weger, daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Trevor Bishop, son Tyler Weger, stepdaughter Teresa Gonzalez and nine grandchildren: Nathaniel, Hailey, Katelyn, Benjamin, Kaylee, Tyler, Kash, Riley, and Dylan. Also, her sister and brother-in-Law Susan and John Brink, nieces Lindsay, Crisi, and nephew Matthew. She was preceded in death by her parents Gladys and Harry Jones and her brother-in-law Dennis Weger.
Services will be held on Monday, July 8th - Visitation is 2:00pm - 3:00pm, funeral service begins at 3:00pm at Wilsons Family Funeral Chapel of Merced. Burial will follow Thursday, July 11 Belcrest Memorial Park, in Salem, Oregon. Remembrances may go to Merced County Courthouse Museum or Donors Favorite Charity.
