John Alverine Pereira, 84 of Atwater, California passed away at home peacefully on Friday, March 27th 2026. John was born on May 2, 1941, in Merced, California, to Joaquin and Carolina Pereira. He married the love of his life Evonne, on April 17, 1960 and spent a lifetime creating a beautiful family, traveling and making countless memories together. A lifelong dairyman and rancher, a truck driver who knew the road well, and a gifted woodworker who could build almost anything with his hands. John had a passion for his family, cooking and was no stranger to hard work. He had a deep love for his Portuguese heritage and took great pride in keeping those traditions alive, especially through food and celebrations. He was a constant presence in his children and grandchildren's lives, rarely missing a 4-Hor FFA event, school event, or special moment, always offering encouragement and support. Known for his generous spirit, he was often found helping at fundraisers and community events, quietly giving his time wherever and whenever it was needed. He also found great joy in cooking, gathering loved ones around the table, and sharing laughter over a good game of cards or dice. Above all, his greatest happiness came from being surrounded by his family or traveling all across the country in their RV. He is survived by his loving wife Evonne for just shy of 66 years; His Children Debra (John) Tanachion, John (Julie) Pereira, Sharon Caldera, and Lauri Doerksen (Roger Sosa); 11 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers (Tony Pereira and Joaquin Pereira) and sisters (Caroline Borba and Lena Machado)
A Catholic funeral service will be held on April 16, 2026, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Atwater, California. A Rosary will begin at 9:30 AM, followed by Mass at 10:00 AM.
