Janice Zanutto Obituary

Janice Clark Zanutto, aged 95, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026, in Valley Springs, California. Born on March 2, 1931, in Oakland, California, Janice lived a full and vibrant life marked by love, dedication, and cherished memories.

Janice graduated from Modesto High School and embarked on a diverse career that showcased her adaptability and work ethic. She worked as a switchboard operator and an elementary school secretary before serving as a Clerk Specialist in Alameda County. After retiring, she embraced the tranquility of country living in Atwater, California, where she found joy in the simplicity of rural life.

Family was at the heart of Janice's world. She is survived by her daughters Victoria Zanutto-Kautz and Terri Zanutto; her son-in-law Paul Kautz; her grandchildren Jason Rice, Erin Rice, Eric Zanutto (and his wife Melanie), and Lauren Zanutto; and her great-grandchildren Aurora Rice, Emily Rice, and Jordan Rice. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Leonard Zanutto, her daughter Gina Rice, and her son Jan Zanutto. Her family will forever treasure the love and wisdom she shared with them.

Janice had a sharp mind and a joyful spirit. She was known for being strong, logical, loving, very organized, and always full of joy. She found pleasure in life’s simple moments—whether enjoying a gin and club soda or red wine with friends or savoring favorite treats like hot dogs, apple fritters, cookies, burnt toast with peanut butter, or a strong cup of coffee. She loved mystery novels and police dramas on television but also had a deep appreciation for the great outdoors. Sitting on the deck watching hummingbirds feed brought her pleasure.

Faith played an important role in Janice’s life. She found fellowship and community at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she experienced the warmth of shared worship and meaningful connections.

Heaven welcomed a new angel when Janice left this world. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. May those who loved her find comfort in remembering her strength, kindness, and unwavering love for life’s simple joys. A Graveside Service will be held on June 25, 2026, at Burwood Cemetery in Escalon.
