Glenda Sevilla Obituary

Glenda (wife, mom, grandma, grammy) Sevilla was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas on September 24, 1946, and passed away on March 22, 2026, at the age of 79.

She moved to Santa Paula, California during her childhood and graduated from the local high school. She played the clarinet in the high school marching band. She was proud of her participation, marching in the 1963 Rosebowl Parade. She married James H. Lewis in 1963. The union resulted in four daughters.

She attended the local Freewill Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, performed duets with husband James, and was a member of a quartet. She loved the Lord with all of her heart.

Glenda sold Avon door to door and won many awards as a top producer. She transitioned her managerial and sales talent from Avon to Payless Shoe Stores where she quickly moved into a position appointed by the Regional Director to realign nonproducing stores with a high theft into a top producing store. And she got the job completed every time!

She continued to work as a manager for various employers affiliated with the retail sales industry until retirement.

Her dream was to be a nurse, but life took her in yet another direction. Even so, she became a mother that doctored many wounds and was affectionately known as “Dr. Sevilla”. Family was #1 to her.

Glenda could grow anything! Known in her retirement years as the “Plant Lady”, She was praised for her incredibly heathy plants. Whether by seed, cutting or a newly potted plant, her patio and side yard were full of diverse types of plants and flowers. Just like all her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and sometimes even their friends, everything multiplied x 10! Glenda loved to give gifts and was known for her giving nature.

Glenda loved to sew and even made her daughters clothes when they were little. She played the piano and loved to paint, do crafts and about anything else she decided she wanted to do.

In 1977, Glenda married Ernest “Ernie” Sevilla. Ernie had six children from an earlier marriage, and Glenda had four children. At one point, all ten children lived in a 4-bedroom house. This was truly testament to the couple’s love for family!

Glenda selflessly loved every soul that crossed the threshold of their home. That is who she is, was, and will always be.

Throughout her years, she exemplified strength, encouragement, guidance, and love for family. She was our biggest fan, our guidance counselor, Sunday school teacher, nurse and friend. Glenda’s legacy will remain in our hearts and minds for generations to come.

Glenda is preceded in death by her parents, Theodore Huckabee and Patsy Bowman; siblings Terry Harmon and Janie Ennenga; spouses James H Lewis and Ernest Sevilla, and stepson Ernest Sevilla Jr.

Glenda is survived by her daughters Shelly Barr, Kelly Conour, Susie Johnson, and Patricia Mead, and son-in–laws Ed Barr, Michael Conour, Robert Johnson and Dennis Mead. Stepdaughters Rosemary Navarro, Eileen Sevilla, Lorraine Buckley and son-in laws Larry Navarro and John Buckley.  And finally, her stepsons Albert Sevilla and Luis Sevilla and daughters-in-law, Janice Sevilla and Joellen Sevilla. Glenda had 50+ grandchildren and great grandchildren combined.
