Gerardo Barroso Mendez, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and cherished member of the Merced community for 40 years, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Friday July 12th.  He was born in Oaxaca, Mexico, and immigrated to the United States at the age of 17, where he built a fulfilling life and legacy.

Gerardo dedicated himself to his work as a dietary cook at a behavioral health center, where he served with compassion and skill. In addition to his professional life, he was an entrepreneur, running a successful small business maintaining lawns and gardens.

He was married to his beloved wife Bacilia for 40 years, and together they raised three children, Miguel, Marcos, and Rebecca. Gerardo took immense pride in his role as a father and later as a grandfather to Landon, Rohan, Aarya Sunshyne, Bianca, Noelia, and Jimmy. His family was his greatest joy, and he was known for his unwavering love and support.

Gerardo was the eldest son in his family and is survived by his siblings Marina, Carolina, Lucia, Alexandro, Pedro, Apolinar, Antonio, and Gerardo Mendez. He cherished his family deeply and was always there to lend a helping hand or share a story that would make anyone feel like a friend.

In every community he lived, Gerardo was beloved by his neighbors. He had a special gift for connecting with people, and his neighbors admired his friendly demeanor and genuine interest in their lives. Gerardo's ability to turn strangers into friends enriched the neighborhoods he called home.

A man of great faith, Gerardo was a devout follower of Jesus Christ, starting each day with prayer and living his life guided by his beliefs. His kindness, humility, and discipline were evident to all who knew him, and his legacy of hard work and dedication will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
