George M. Azevedo

George Azevedo of Winton, CA passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 13, 2018. He was 60 years old. George was born to parents Alberto & Albertina Azevedo in Norte Grande, Azores. In 1965 his parents and family moved to Africa and lived there for 3 years before they immigrated in 1968 to the small town of Gustine, CA. In 1971 the family moved to Turlock. George attended Chatom Elementary and Turlock High School. After graduating from THS in 1976 he went to work as a firefighter for California Department of Forestry (CDF). The family relocated to the Merced/Winton area where George has made his home since.


For over 30 years he was a painting contractor & business owner of Azevedo Painting. He worked with Life Line and painted out graffiti all over the town of Winton. Since 1992 he has also worked for Wilson Family Funeral Chapel. He volunteered his time at the Winton Spring Festival and Love Winton organization. George coached baseball for Winton Recreation for over 12 years. He purchased Christmas gifts for needy students in the school district. George served on the Winton School Board for the past 4 years and was recently re-elected for another term. During his early 40's, anytime George wasn't working you could find him at Turlock Municipal Airport flying in his ultralight aircraft.
George was preceded in death by his wife Pamela and father Alberto. He is survived by his mother; Albertina Azevedo, daughter; Kimberly (Randy), grandchildren; Lil Randy, Annabella, Vega, and Rogen. He also leaves his brothers; Paul (Rosa), and Elias (Tammy).


Viewing will be held Tuesday, 11/20 from 1 – 7 PM at Wilson Family Funeral Chapel, 1290 Winton Way, Atwater, CA. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, 11/21 at 10AM also at Wilson Family Funeral Chapel. Burial will immediately follow at Winton District Cemetery, 7651 Almond Ave, Winton, CA. A Reception will follow the burial at Winton Middle School - 6300 Cypress Ave Winton, CA.
