Fred grew up working in the family dairy business as a small child, and as a teen growing almonds alongside his family. He attended various schools in Atwater, graduating from Atwater High School. In 1968 Silva’s Backhoe Service was established and in 1974 Silva’s Enterprises was born where Fred bought and sold heavy equipment all over the United States and abroad.
Fred enjoyed traveling with his family in his younger years and attending heavy equipment auctions all over the country in his older years. He was a history buff and lifelong learner. He loved to read the Bible and discuss spiritual topics. He had a passion for gold mining and spent much of his free time doing the things that he enjoyed most.
In 1973 he met the love of his life Hortencia. She would stand by his side through thick and thin and they were married in 1974. Together they raised their three children in Merced, California. In 2000 they moved and settled in Mariposa County, where he worked tirelessly supporting his family working in construction and selling heavy equipment.
Fred was a man of integrity whose character would never waiver under any circumstances, regardless of the situation. Fred had a personality and charisma to make friends wherever he went. His smile was infectious, and his blue eyes were kind and honest. He was a man of simple taste who always wore jeans, a long sleeve flannel shirt, and a hat; that was his trademark look.
Fred was a great man whose life positively impacted his family and friends who loved him so much. He was a selfless man whose passing leaves an un-fillable gap in the hearts of his loved ones. His ability to sacrifice, provide, support, forgive, and love will be forever engrained on the hearts of all who knew him.
