Essie Gordon Obituary

Essie Mae Gordon - 93 of Merced, passed away on Tuesday, July 23rd at Lamerson Landy Merced.  

Essie Mae Gordon was born on August 16, 1931, to the late Alberta Johnson, and
Samuel Marshall in Columbus, Georgia. She was the oldest of three children.

Essie accepted Jesus Christ into her life at an early age, and eventually became a
 devoted Catholic.

Essie moved to California to attend Merced College to pursue her dream of
becoming a nurse. After graduating, she was employed as a registered nurse with
Mercy Medical Center in Merced. Retiring after an impeccable 43 years. 
She was an outstanding nurse, who truly enjoyed her job. 

Essie was united in holy matrimony to James Andrew Gordan, and they built a life
together in Atwater, California. She was a stern, but loving mother to her children Paul,
and Deborah.

Essie was a faithful member of Saint Anthony’s Church, where she served on several
committees and auxiliary boards. She was also a member of the Ebony Socialites
for over fifty years. She also loved going to bingo with her friends.

Essie was proceeded in death by her ex-husband James, both parents, siblings
Homer, and Leila, granddaughter Natasha, and son Paul.

Essie leaves to cherish her memory one daughter/Niece Deborah King of San
Antonio, TX, grandson, Natalino Penno of Colorado Springs, Colorado
Three other nieces; Theresa Howard, Belinda Howard, Denise Howard, of Chicago,
IL, Two great nieces Brandy Howard of Birmingham, AL, Candice Gresham (Darnez)
of Flossmoor, IL, Four great nephews, Dyron Howard of Chicago, IL, David King of
Salt Lake City, Utah, Zikomo King of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Brandon
Howard of Montgomery, AL, and host of cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Essie had three great friends, Mae Holland, Eula Toka, and Delores Maryland. She
also had many friends from the Lamerson Landy Care Retirement home where she
was loved and cared for by their loving staff and community. She had a special
bond with Italy Dewisley-Woods.

A time for reflection, to share memories, show support and celebrate her life will begin at 10:00am on Wednesday, July 31st, at Wilson Family Funeral Chapel of Merced. 

She will be laid to rest with family in Chicago, IL., at Mount Hope Cemetery.
