Edith Koehn Obituary

Edith Elaine (Koehn) Koehn was born in Turlock, CA, on August 18,1947. She peacefully passed away on the morning of May 6, 2024, surrounded by her family. Edith grew up in the Livingston and Winton area, forming a close bond with her twelve siblings with whom she shared a quick wit and a love of singing. She, along with her twin sister, Ethel, were baptized into the fellowship of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, by Min. Jesse Koehn on April 24, 1960. When Edith was sixteen, her mother passed away. After this, she and Ethel moved in with their sister and her husband, Viola and Archie. On April 30, 1967, she married Chester Koehn. They shared thirty-seven years together. Two sons and four daughters joined their home. Our mother was devoted to her family, working long hours to care for us. She faithfully supported Dad in his ministry for thirty years. Mom opened her home to several girls who needed a place to live, and they were accepted as her family. Cooking was part of her love language and up to a few days before her passing she was still making sure everyone was fed. Her love for gardening was apparent to all who drove by her beautiful and well-tended yard. When our dad passed away in 2004, Mom was left lonely. She took the advice Dad gave her before he died and turned this loneliness into service. Her home continued to be open to friends and family. She is remembered for her wonderful peroga meals and the singing evenings she hosted. The family gathered at her house on holidays, family nights and Sunday evenings after church. Singing was a big part of Mom’s life and she used this to bless others when she started the Monday morning singing for Grace Home. Her early morning quiet times and well-worn Bible are a testimony of her love of the Lord. When she was diagnosed with cancer in June of 2023, she faced it bravely. She testified of a peace and a longing for Heaven a few days before her passing. On Monday morning, when she would have been singing with the group for Grace Home, she left us to sing with the angels.
