Donald Ernest Surdich, 90 years passed away on Tuesday, October 14th. Don, also known as “Super and Geech”. Born at Mercy hospital on Oct 5, 1935, to Jack and Leona Surdich. Survived by his companion Janie Schropp, daughter Michelle Henry of Turlock and son Brett Surdich of Merced. Don attended Galen Clark elementary school and was a drummer in the drum bugle corp. He graduated Merced Highs class of 1954. Founder of Merced Highs Marching 100. Member of Merced County bowling hall of fame. Member of General Motors Truck Hall of Fame. He served in the US Army in Korea in Custer's 7th Calvary. Lifelong member of Club Mercedes, 25-year member of the Elks Lodge #1240. Involved in men's fast pitch and women's slow pitch softball for many years. Deputy commissioner for Merced-Mariposa counties for the ASA Amateur Softball Association. Bowling columnist for the Merced Sun Star for many years. He played drums for the Partner's, a country rock band.
