Dewisley Alvoyd Woods Jr. (Al) a lifelong resident of Merced Ca. born on June 2, 1947, to the
late Dewisley A. Woods Sr. and Vivian G. Woods. Dewisley departed this life on December
27,2023 at 7:43am at Kaiser Permanente in Sacramento Ca. with his granddaughter Quynita by
his side. Dewisley was the baby boy of seven children born to his parents. He attended Galen
Clark and Tenaya Middle School. He also attended Merced High School where he graduated in
1966. He then was drafted to the army and served in the Vietnam War from 1966-1968.
Al worked for the City of Merced alongside his father as a garbage man. A few years later he
worked at Mercy Hospital with his father - in - law as custodians. Al then later went on to work
for Merced County Weaver District as a bus driver and continued as a bus driver and janitor for
30+ years at Mcswain School District where he retired from.
When Al returned, he married the love of his life Dorothy Mae Skipper. Two beautiful daughters
were born Italy Marie, and Melissa Kimberly. Al loved the lord and joined Antioch Missionary
Baptist Church, where he was baptized by the late Dr. E.P. Goodin. He was a member of the
usher board and the choir. He also joined the men’s brotherhood and led a few songs.
Al was a strong man. He loved all sports, but as for baseball and tennis , these were his
favorite. He played baseball for the city. He also played tennis and won numerous tennis
matches, where he had trophies to show. He was a referee for men’s and women's softball for a
few years, just to keep himself busy and around the things he loved. A hobby he also loved was
fishing, gardening and going to the casino with his nephew Reggie. He would wake up early and
set out to catch fish to bring home and have his wife cook. Sometimes they settled for store
bought because he came home without a bite. Al also had a heart for family. He loved to be
around his family all the time. He enjoyed being around his nieces and nephews hanging out
playing cards and dominos while listening to good music. He had a soft spot for his grandkids
and great grandchildren, always sneaking them snacks before dinner.
Al is preceded in death by his parents Dewisley Sr. and Vivian Woods, daughter Melissa
(Missy), siblings ‘two brothers: Cecil Donald Woods, and Vernon Ray Woods, 4 sisters: Rita
Marie Woods, Ezitta Jean Woods Davis, Joann Woods Smith, Karen Kay Woods Burkley. Sister
- In - Law Ernestine Woods, Brother - In - Law Ernest Lynwood Davis. One niece Daphne
Turner, and one nephew Terrence Woods, godson Tyron (Ty) Bankhead Sr.
Al leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 49 years Dorothy Woods, one
daughter Italy Woods Reid (James Reid). Six Grandchildren Dewisley Woods and Demetrius
Bankhead of Austin Tx, Marche’ McDuffie, Tyron Bankhead and Dante’ Woods of Merced Ca,
and Quynita Bankhead of Sacramento Ca. Five Great Grandchildren Melissa Bankhead, Khalil
Bankhead, Aniyah Gutierrez, Nay’Arie Bankhead and Lei’Lani Bankhead. One Aunt Anne Lillie
Woods Juarez of Los Angeles Ca. Six Brother - In - Laws, Al Boyce Jr (Linder) of Little Rock Ar.
Allen Boyce (Mary), of San Diego Ca. Luther Ryals, Donald McIver (Shan), Bishop Fredrick
McIver (Latrice), all of Townsend, Ga and Jeffery McIver of Atlanta Ga… Four Sister - In - Laws
Barbra Willis, Ella Frazier, Roberta McIver Lane, and Sharon McIver all of Townsend Ga. And a
host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins, family and friends.
