Deborah Luna Obituary

Deborah Lynn (Chavez) Luna of Merced, was born on June 1, 1953, in Oakland CA to Antonio Chavez and Catherine (Whayn) Meacham [formerly married to Antonio Chavez].
Debbie passed away Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center-Merced, at the age of 72.

She had lived in the Merced area for nearly 40 years; she was a cherished member of the community and had a multitude of friends.  For many years, she worked as a supervisor at the Human Services Agency in Los Banos and Merced.  After retirement, she worked for H&R Block as a tax preparer.  When her late husband Jerry was diagnosed with dementia in 2017, she and her daughter Gretchen were his primary caregivers.  She was an active member of the Merced Senior Center and served on the Board of Directors.

Debbie enjoyed people and she loved life.  She was an expert seamstress, highly skilled at crochet, and an outstanding cook.  She loved to craft and had a wonderfully creative mind.  Debbie’s kindness and love for sarcasm will leave a lasting impact on those who knew her.  She will always be loved and remembered for her “can-do” attitude and her witty sense of humor.
