Cosme Granado of Atwater, California, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, at the age of 72. Born in Phoenix, Arizona, on March 26, 1953, Cosme embodied a life of service, warmth, and community spirit.
A proud graduate of Tanya Middle school, and Merced High School, Cosme answered his country’s call by serving in the United States Army. Upon returning home, he met and married Yolanda Ruiz. Together they raised 4 children. The family collected many priceless memories through countless trips to Santa Cruz, Fisherman’s Wharf and days spent at Lake Yosemite. Hard-work, loyalty and a never give up attitude, are just a few valuable lessons Cosme instilled in his children.
Cosme dedicated over three decades to coaching youth sports throughout Atwater and the surrounding areas—believing firmly that athletics helped keep kids out of trouble, while building character, confidence, and life long lessons. His legendary energy on the sidelines, court and diamond has inspired countless young athletes. He also served as a Resource teacher assistant helping at risk students in Atwater.
An avid sports fan, Cosme rooted passionately for his favorite boxer Joe Frazier, the Cleveland Browns and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He could often be found enjoying reading his books or completing a crossword puzzle. He loved to listen to James Brown, Teddy Pendergrass, Al Green, and The Delfonics just to name a few. He also enjoyed having a cold Pepsi on a warm day after doing his lawn or indulging his sweet tooth with a Payday candy bar. Above all, his greatest joy came from watching his grandchildren and great‑grandchildren grow.
Cosme is survived by his loving wife, Yolanda Granado; daughters Estella Getty, Victoria Granado, and Ruby Granado; son Matthew Granado (Kendra Granado) ; and a legacy of grandchildren Ryan Getty (Kendra Getty), Sabrina Keys, Mia Granado, Gabriel Martinez, Matthew Granado II, Benjamin Granado, Tatum Granado and great‑grandchildren (Eleanor Getty, Caleb Getty, Athena Getty, Phoebe Keys) who carry forward his spirit of kindness, perseverance, and community. He was preceded in death by his mother Hermelinda Granado and his brother Manuel Pinto, both of whom he carried in his heart throughout his life.
Cosme’s quiet strength, gentle humor, and unwavering dedication to others will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
Please feel free to donate to a local sports club in your area or helping at risk youth in Cosme’s name.
