Obituary

Our Mother, Catalina Rivera, passed in her home after battling Liver Disease, on January 9, 2019. She was 90 years old.
Our Mother, Catalina (many knew her as Katie) was born in Vado, NM in March 1928. She graduated from Bowie High School, El Paso, TX. At the age of 18, she moved to California to work for a cannery and started a nursing program. She moved to the Merced County area at the request of her parents, Hipolito and Dionicia Acosta and remained here for the rest of her life. Catalina was involved in many organizations throughout her life: 4-H, Lioness Club, Mercedes Club, React, and Beta Sigma Phi just to name a few. She worked many jobs to sustain her family until she retired.
She met her first husband, Nasario Aguilar and had two children, Veronica Mauna and Vince Aguilar. When they divorced, she worked two and three jobs at a time to provide for her children along with the help of her parents. She then met the love of her life, Barney Rivera. They were married in December 1974. He had three children, Trinidad Rivera, Michael Rivera (Deceased), and Mary Helen Cabaccang. Their marriage was a union that made a beautiful family.

Katie was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Grandma Katie.
