Alice Marie Dutra Brady, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, at the age of 84 surrounded by loved ones.
Born on March 24, 1942, in Merced, California, Alice was the cherished daughter of Joseph Francis Dutra and Mary Clara Dutra. She was the second of eight children and grew up surrounded by a large, loving family that remained important to her throughout her life.
On November 25, 1959, Alice married her one true love, James Brady Jr., at Saint Anthony’s Church. What began as a young romance became a remarkable 68-year love story built on unwavering devotion, faith, loyalty, and unconditional love. Jim adored Alice every day of their marriage, and she loved him just as fiercely in return. Their relationship was a shining example of true partnership and remains an inspiration to all who knew them.
Together, Alice and Jim built a beautiful life centered around family, hard work, and community. Surrounded by their children, grandchildren, siblings, and countless loved ones, they became affectionately known as “The Brady Bunch,” They owned and operated several successful businesses, including grocery stores, Burger Basket, and Foster Freeze. They were also almond growers, tending 20 acres of almonds, and enjoyed investing in and renovating real estate properties together.
Alice’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother to her three daughters, Cheryl Anne Perales, (Mike) Terri Lynn Laudate (Tony) , and Carrie Renee Cooley (Joe). She was a proud grandmother to Shasta Derkalousdian, James Brady Loewen, Brandon Brady, Taylor Noel, Trevor Laudate, and a loving great-grandmother to Noah, Violet, Avery, Lily, and Harper.
She deeply loved all of her beloved brothers and sisters: Frank, Joe, Danny, Alvin, Billy, Cindy, and Diana.
Alice never missed a family gathering and treasured every opportunity to bring loved ones together. Her home was filled with warmth, beauty, and hospitality. She had a gift for interior decorating, creating beautiful floral arrangements, gardening, and sharing coffee and conversation with friends and family. Her elegance and beauty were evident both inside and out, but it was her kindness, generosity, and loving spirit that people will remember most.
A woman of deep faith, Alice lived a full and meaningful life. She leaves behind a legacy of love, family, strength, and devotion. Her family finds comfort knowing that the love she shared and the example she set will continue to live on through generations to come.
Alice will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered. Her beautiful spirit will remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
